Steamwork Engine, a 100 word story

The gears grinding
Pushing thoughts forward
Clanking chains pulling weights that, once released,
will fall and wind tight springs.
Engines that have been running
at full heads of steam since sunrise
now seem to beg for either more coal
or to be permitted to cool down.
Gears, much in need of grease, grinding

Rivets have rattled loose and require repair
Bolts have broken loose
Let us not even speak of the screws
Copper fittings rattling and shaking
Deck plating jumping and quaking

With all this noise in my head it is a wonder
I can think to write at all
