Love unspoken
A heart forever broken

A line not crossed
Never to give love's token

One to be saved
Passion's depth, never spoken

One heart is lost
Love forever unspoken

'Neath waves of tears
Quiet screams of anguish hushed

Strangled for years
The life of this love to crush

Dark life to fears
Given to a Dark Heart's rush

So many tears
Shed for love unrequited

Withholding all
Preventing one heart's delight

Internal squall
Grows and rages in the night

Protecting love
Keeping the beast locked from sight

Destroying all

Falling

Falling
Silently
Relentlessly
Unceasingly
Darkness falls
Cold, hard walls
Made of stone
Aching heart
Left alone
Inside
Falling apart
Crumbling
Tumbling
Decaying
No words
Worth saying
Just delaying
Parts playing
Lies saying
All decaying
Rotting
Crumbling
Decaying
Wasting away
To dust
To rust
Crumbling crust
No sarcophagus
Just the body
The heart
Rent apart
In the dark
Bones Cracking
Tendons Tearing
Muscles Shredding
To pieces
No relief
No respite
No release
From this pain
Wracked over
And Over
And Over
And again
In agony
Torturous
Afflicted
Broken will
No avail
Relentless Infliction
Inciting
Causing
A brand new
Betrayal

A blitz poem

Never One

To regret the chances not taken or
to regret the pain of the mistakes made
Which is the harder to endure?
The angst of knowing it would have
been a mistake, but having given it your all
at any rate
Or the pains of having done so and regretting
the pain of the position into which you have placed
others

One is never one
One does not exist in a vacuum no
matter how hard he tries to believe otherwise

His actions, his words, will always impart angst and
distress to others
No matter how well intended
Even those he cares most for will be hurt whence
all has ended

One is never one
One does not exist in a vacuum no matter
how hard he tries to believe otherwise

It comes to be that, once a destroyer, always a
destroyer he will be
Acts of kindness and feelings of friendship are
fast and easily confused
People are misread and seen as to be deceiving
or to be used

One is never one
One does not exist in a vacuum no matter
how hard he tries to believe otherwise

In his self imposed darkness he weeps
His own company, alone now, he keeps
For, in spite of all his best intentions, only pain
and fear still he reaps

Shadowed Memories

Your skin was moist and warm
I awoke to an empty bed
The memory of you still fresh in my head

The warmth of your neck against my face
The way you smell after a shower
Your lovely lips, delicate and red

In the middle of the night, I hear your voice,
so it seems
These are echoes from my memories,
from my dreams
The memory of you still fresh in my head

Your soft brown hair cascading down and
framing your face
Your bright blue eyes laughing
Your lovely lips, delicate and red

I close my eyes and feel your arms around
my neck
Your body warm and pressed against mine
The memory of you still fresh in my head

The memory of you still fresh in my head
Your lovely lips, delicate and red
A smile, a downward glance, a swish
of your hips, a tilt of your head
You say so, so much and hardly a
Word you've said

Everything Costs Something

Everything costs something, nothing is free
Even a moment of joy, a single solitary moment
Means coming agony

If you find peace, anger and frustration are coming
Solace and comfort, discord and grief
Contentment, misery
Abundance?
Abundance will soon be followed by an
abysmal dearth of everything good and pleasing

Everything costs something, nothing is free
Those kind words spoken in effigy
Are soon to be your eulogy

An abundance of gifts leads to an abundance of nothing
Nothing has meaning and everything is useless
Plenty darkens in scarcity
In your despair nothing that was good will repair
nothing left in the larder answers the pangs that knock harder

Everything costs something, nothing is free
Rich, fine clothes now rags they become
In come worms, long you are done

The Pit

It is so very dark
The pit goes so very deep
Down where the light can not find

Stones are black and indistinct
The stairs are deadly and there you slip
The shadows have an icy grip

There is only one life down in the pit
The only sound to hear are echos
Down where the light can not find

There is no hope here
The walls are pressing in, crushing
The shadows have an icy grip

Aching bones and mind
No peace will you find
Down where the light can not reach

This pit I can not escape
This pit is in my mind
The shadows have an icy grip
Down where the light can not find

Shipwreck

The darkening skies
Bringing cold, wet winds
Against which, fire does but naught
Laid bare and open
To all the tempest
Barren rock with dangers fraught
Keels, ribs, and spar
We see from afar

The dark horizon
Heralds a dark dawn
Against which fire does naught
Laid bare as a chest
To all the tempest
Upon each rock doom is fraught

Seen through hardened eyes
Here, destruction lies
For all a watery grave
Like a toy is tossed
This, too, shall be lost
Not a soul here shall be saved

Always Silent

In death its cold embrace remains
Dark and shadowed like an old bloodstain
The grave awaits, her to contain
Always silent.
Always Silent

Figures weeping in icy rain
Weeping over their loss and pain
Flower petals are overlain
Always silent.
Always silent.

Veiled in gossamer and lace
To its cold embrace
No smile, no tears on her face
Always silent.
Always silent.

Forever taken from my grace
Entombed within this cold, dark place
Forever locked in death's embrace
Always silent.
Always silent.

At the Edges

Memories creep on the edges
Along the edges of my mind
In them I fear what I may find
At the edges. At the edges.

Faces peeking in from shadows
Shadows lingering from the past
Bony fingers, with icy grasp
At the edges. At the edges.

Voices howl out from the heavy mist
The mist that clings so hauntingly
Echoes with voices dauntingly
At the edges. At the edges.

Piercingly, their eyes, watching me
Watching me from sunken sockets
Peering out from long dead pockets
At the edges. At the edges.

Florettes

A Florette is a two line poem with an end rhyme and an internal rhyme. Each poem is line is six syllables. Here is a selection of my own addition to this style of poetry.

Thunder in the distance
Crumbling all resistance

Shoulders cold and sagging
Weapons and hearts dragging

Subterfuge and guile
Stabbing with a smile

Stalking me while walking
Threatens without talking

I Walk

I walk in the light
I walk in the night
Either way, I walk in no one's sight

From where I am I watch you all
I watch you laugh
I watch you fall

In the pain of my own darkness
I watch your rise
I watch your fall

It matters not to me
As I matter not to thee
I walk in the light
I walk in the night
Either way, I walk in no one's sight

You Can Be Alone

you know, you can be alone
in the middle of a room full of people
you can be far away from everyone
when surrounded by your family

that is a sad thing
the realization of which sends
you further down
makes you sadder and more withdrawn

you can be at a party with all your friends
and your closest family
and be miles away
isolated, alone and lonely

your hurt and hurting
your wounds are old and fresh
you ache from it all
and can get away from none of it

you can't seem to enjoy anything
ot any of the people around you
you are too far away from eceryone
even when amongst your family

The World I see It Is Me

Looking out the windows as if they were eyes
in a time weathered face

The sky is as gray as slate
and cold as stone

The trees are molting their leaves
wind blown piles of dead dying

This is one time of the year that
the outside reflects what is inside

How memories and emotions fall forming
wind blown piles of dead and dying

The sun slowly sinking brings a deeper
darkness to the sky

As the sun closes its eyes
to me

Like outside the is less life to see
and within it grows colder and darker

The cycles of the sun and the seasons
we know all too well

The cycle of the sun and seasons within me
are yet to be discerned

Until such time unto the cold and dark
I am interred

What Have You Done?

what have you done?
a dark black shadowy cloud of betrayal
as the pain of reality makes us writhe.
once we drank of wonder,
wide-eyed and glad-hearted,
but your lies and deception soured
our sweet nectar.
a sickening morass of bitterness -
drops of blood follow rain, follow death,
love left to die.
in a torrent of your self-righteousness,
i hate you.

The Rage Comes

most days i feel nothing
just emptiness
a void, the origin of which is deep within
a treacherous journey through the haunting images
of people dying, blood spewing from holes or deep lacerationsa void which expands to just below my skin

most days i feel nothing
yet, of late there is so much more
so much lurid rage emanates from this void
it pushes and presses against my skin
it tears at the inside of my flesh with ragged claws

this wild rage that presses, tears, and burns
also pulls at the edges my psyche
it gnaws at the last vestiges of my heart
as hyenas bite at an animal's lifeless hide

the rage comes, filling my being
with hatred hot and seething
yet it remains locked within
held back by heavy doors of thick timbers

this is such that dwells within
tainting that which is seen without

When All You Want to do is Give Up

You know those times when you just can't do any more?
When nothing seems good enough?
Those times when all you want to do is give up?

Everyone has those days.
Issues and tasks have piled up
You just can't do any more

Nothing is done right enough or well enough
Not a single item reaches satisfaction
Those times when all you want to do is give up.

For all of us those days come and go
For most, that is, that day passes away
What do you do when you live there, when you can't do any more?

No plan has come to fruition as envisioned
The deeply rooted senses are left unsatisfied
You know, those times when you just can't do any more
Yes, those endless days when all you want to do is give up

My Thoughts on Love

I was asked what my thoughts were on love.
What thoughts on this "gift" from Heaven above?

Helen of Troy and
Heloise of Abelard are first in my thought

What more evidence need you to recognize the
pain, angst, anguish, and death this gift has wrought.

Oh, how the heart dances like a man on the end of a rope.
How it makes the heart writhe in pain.

Why Abel was killed by Cain?
It was the want of love that caused him such pain.

The lies told, tears from another's eyes
The depths of anguish and pain wrought by love is Hel itself.

Not the firey lakes and maggoty hell of fire
But the barren, dark, frozen Hel which the Vikings feared.

Abelard wrote to Heloise, and she to him, of their heart's desire.
An ancient Icelandic fisher who, once his love had come to be,
Himself was swallowed by the swollen, frozen sea.
My thoughts, you ask, on love are that, in love fulfilled our joy is killed.

Such is the "gift" of love.

From the Shadows I watch

From the shadows I watch.
In the shadows I live.

I see people moving, loving.
I see their intentions of greed, self serving need.

From the shadows I watch.
In the shadows I live.

I see the lies spoken.
The promises broken.

From the shadows I watch.
In the shadows I live.

Some have entreated me to some into the light.
To share some warmth, joy, and delight.

From the shadows I watch.
In the shadows I live.

I point out the hypocrisy, the lies, and greed.
In feigned shock to me they say that is not at all the way.

From the shadows I watch.
In the shadows I live.
The shadows have never lied to me.
The shadows share all that there is to see.

The Shadows Come

The Shadows Fall

Sometimes you are walking along the path
It's the right path by all accounts
Full of life and vibrant

Then, without warning, the darkness comes
The light falls back in fear
Jumping away like a startled deer

It comes on wings so swift and silent
Like a giant owl dropping silently on its prey
On a cold, moonless night

It settles in with a stale air
A firm presence
A cold, empty stare

The presence of it permeates your very being
Encrusting every thought
Making every beat of the heart a painfully exhausting strain

Although the light is shining all around
From me comes a hollow sound
As the darkness comes again
