Never One

To regret the chances not taken or
to regret the pain of the mistakes made
Which is the harder to endure?
The angst of knowing it would have
been a mistake, but having given it your all
at any rate
Or the pains of having done so and regretting
the pain of the position into which you have placed
others

One is never one
One does not exist in a vacuum no
matter how hard he tries to believe otherwise

His actions, his words, will always impart angst and
distress to others
No matter how well intended
Even those he cares most for will be hurt whence
all has ended

One is never one
One does not exist in a vacuum no matter
how hard he tries to believe otherwise

It comes to be that, once a destroyer, always a
destroyer he will be
Acts of kindness and feelings of friendship are
fast and easily confused
People are misread and seen as to be deceiving
or to be used

One is never one
One does not exist in a vacuum no matter
how hard he tries to believe otherwise

In his self imposed darkness he weeps
His own company, alone now, he keeps
For, in spite of all his best intentions, only pain
and fear still he reaps
